Tests & Results

Requesting your test results

Please note it is your responsibility to contact the surgery for your results as it is not possible to contact every patient individually. You can request test results via the following methods:

On the NHS/ Patient Access app: You can view your test results on the NHS and/or Patient Access app. To request full online patient access in order to view test results, please come into the surgery to fill out an online patient access form. You MUST bring a form of photo ID (i.e., your driver’s license) and proof of your current address (i.e., a recent bank statement).

Submitting an online admin query: For results of any tests requested by your doctor, please submit an ‘admin query’ via the online form. Please specify whether you would like a copy of your results.

Via the telephone/ in person: To request results via this method, please call or visit the surgery after 14:00.

Interpreting results

The doctor reviews all test results and will make a comment on your medical records as to whether your result is normal or abnormal. The receptionist will be able to give you this information when you enquire and will advise if any action is recommended by the doctor. Please be aware that our receptionists are unable to interpret results for you. If the results haven’t yet been reviewed by a GP, we kindly ask that you call us back at a later date. The reception team CANNOT share unreviewed results.

Time taken for results to become available

Results are usually back in the following times:

  • Most blood tests up to 1 week
  • Some specialised blood tests up to 3 weeks
  • Urine and stool tests up to 1 week
  • X-Rays up to 10 days

Confidentiality

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

Tests requested by the hospital or a private consultant

To request the results from any tests performed outside of the GP, please contact the consultant/ hospital who requested the test. We are unable to give you results or discuss results organised by another clinician, whether NHS or private. It is the ordering clinician’s responsibility to convey and discuss the results with you. We do not have access to the results nor in some circumstances the expertise to interpret or discuss an onward plan. If the results are sent to us, it is for our information only. Please contact your clinician to arrange a follow-up appointment.
